Brainspotting
Rapid and effective therapy to help you move forward in life.
Brainspotting is a deeply personal form of therapy. Unlike other forms of therapy where the therapist leads or guides you through your healing journey, brainspotting is much more client-led. Brainspotting allows the client to listen to their body during the healing process. The role of the therapist in brainspotting sessions is one of attuned presence, and helping you track your experience moment by moment, and walking with you as your mind and body lead you to where you need to go to heal.
On a more technical level, brainspotting identifies, processes, and releases core neurophysiological sources of pain, trauma, and grief in patients. Brainspotting’s effects are both physiological and psychological: through Brainspotting, the root of the trauma stored in the brain can be released with subtle and profound effects.
No, it isn’t a spot on your brain…not exactly, at least. Instead, a “brainspot” relates to the position your eyes focus on when talking about certain topics that are connected to your grief, trauma, or pain. As your eyes focus outward, the direction they look (up, down, to the side, and so on) directly relate to a place (aka a “spot”) in your brain responsible for storing memories. The human body is an incredible thing, and it was made to heal. Brainspotting helps bring clients back to being whole, to become better than they were before the trauma.
Since brainspotting works within the autonomic nervous system and limbic systems of the body, it triggers both body and brain reactions, which can put you on a course to healing. It also works particularly well since it can be used as an adjunctive therapy.
Brainspotting can help clients process their unaddressed traumatic stress. Brainspotting can help alleviate symptoms from depression, lethargy, deadness, exhaustion, dissociation, anxiety, panic, hyperactivity, exaggerated startle, restlessness, hyper vigilance, digestive problems, emotional flooding, chronic pain, sleeplessness, hostility/rage, or any number of other symptoms.
I strive to give my patients as much information and knowledge as they need to understand and feel comfortable with the methods I use in my practice. I use brainspotting, because it is effective at simultaneously diagnosing and treating specific areas of trauma that have been holding you back from being your best self. After just a few sessions, you will be amazed at how well it works. Throughout your journey, I will be there with you, answering questions, giving guidance, and being a cheerleader for you every step of the way.
